Allen's Cruz is an independent designer and visual artist based in Tio'tia / Mooniyang / Montréal. His artistic and design practice, with an emphasis on typography, includes work in print, publishing, and digital design within the disciplines of art and culture.
Cruz's work understands design as the point of connection between cultural identities and gravitates towards typography as a tool for the shared construction of the world. His hybrid Dominican-Canadian identity informs his ever-evolving approach to social and cultural realities.
Cruz holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a specialization in Design and Art from Concordia University. Allen's participated in the Nicho program. Space for research and projects edition 2023, in which he presented a work during the collective exhibition ANTI-PROCESSES [shared points].
Currently, Cruz resides in the Tlaxcala3 artistic center. His research connects themes of visual poetry, marginal discourse, and decolonial design, in which he will exhibit his artistic process.
Cruz is co-founder of the type foundry TheyType alongside Sarah Auches, specializing in high-quality custom fonts. Allen's also works as the lead designer at OTAMI- alongside Cree Sebastien Aubin, where he has worked on numerous projects involving custom typography, visual identity, and book publications for Postcommodity, Remai Modern Gallery, Art Gallery of Ontario, and Jeffrey Gibson, among others.
