What do you see? A rock? A heart? Perhaps a glove? Imagen por Venir is a work of art created by Allen’s Cruz during the 2023 Nicho diploma program at Avalokita.
Cruz explores the concept of idiosyncratic symbols, which can have different meanings for each person. For example, a sword might represent war for some, but for others, it could symbolize surgery. Imagen por Venir is the interpretation of a symbol containing multiple layers (themes of identity, tension, and archiving) with the original form of a baseball glove, on which a fragmented visual summary has been engraved into the leather. Is it fragmented due to the passage of time or encoded as a solution for survival?
The artwork not only invites visual contemplation but also encourages you to explore these opaque lines inscribed on it, thus creating a more intimate and participatory connection—a symbolic play where the physical merges with the graphic.
